From the pier, travel approximately 20 minutes via private motor launch to the exquisite Piazza San Marco, where a knowledgeable guide will await to escort you to the splendid Cathedral. Built in Romanesque-Byzantine style in the course of 400 years, it shines with its unique mosaics.
Next you will visit the Doge's Palace. The building, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, is an accumulation of layer upon layer of building work and ornamentation, comprising the original foundations, the 14-15th century structure, sizable Renaissance additions and opulent Mannerist details.
You will revive the daily bustle that once en-lived the palace through the many pictures by some of the greatest 16th-century masters illustrating the historical events of the Serenissima Republic.
Once the Doge’s residence and the seat of the Venetian government and tribunal, it contained courtrooms and dungeons. Adjoining the palace is the famous Ponte dei Sospiri, or Bridge of Sighs. This legendary structure connects the palace to the former ducal prison. Today, it is a favorite rendezvous of lovers who believe that if they kiss under the bridge, their love will last forever.
